Kevin Warren, born in Phoenix in 1963, developed a passion for sports at a young age, influenced by members of his family. His father, Dr. Morrison Warren Sr., was a professional football player for the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1948, and later served as the first African-American president of the 1982 Fiesta Bowl Board of Directors.
Warren himself was recognized as one of the Top 50 ASU football players of all time by Arizona State University in 2013. Additionally, his eldest brother Morrison Warren Jr. was one of the first African-American scholarship student-athletes at Stanford, where he played football in the early 1960s.

Kevin Warren became the Commissioner of the Big Ten Conference on January 1, 2020, succeeding Jim Delany as the 6th commissioner in the conference’s history. He is the first African American to hold this position and the first to lead any of the Power Five conferences. Warren began his duties as commissioner-elect in September 2019 and led the conference through the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic. He also oversaw the addition of USC and UCLA to the conference, set to join in 2024.
