Anna Paulina Luna, a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, is currently serving as the U.S. Representative for Florida’s 13th congressional district, a position she has held since 2023. She is noteworthy for being the first Mexican-American woman to be elected to Congress from the state of Florida.
Representative Anna Paulina Luna has been currently accused of embellishing or altering details about her ethnicity, family background, and encounters with firearms and security, according to a report by the Washington Post. Born as Anna Mayerhofer, she changed her name, claiming it was a tribute to her mother’s Mexican-American family.
In 2015, when filling out her voter registration in Florida, Representative Anna Paulina Luna identified herself as “white, not of Hispanic origin.” However, she later claimed to be of Hispanic origin in an updated form submitted in 2019.
Here in this post, let’s take a look at her personal life including her husband as well as at the criticism she has been currently facing because of her family background.
Anna Paulina Luna is married to Andrew Gamberzky, also known as Andy, who hails from New Jersey. He is a U.S. Air Force combat controller. Anna took her husband’s surname after marriage. The couple met while Andy was serving in the Air Force.

Andrew’s family lived close to New York and witnessed the devastating events of 9/11, which inspired him to pursue a career as a pilot. He joined the Air Force and was soon assigned to Florida, where he met Anna. The couple got married in 2011.
However, shortly after their marriage, Andrew was deployed to Afghanistan for his duty and was unfortunately shot by enemy troops, causing severe injury. The recovery process was long and challenging, but it brought the couple closer together and made them more committed to serving their country and supporting injured veterans like themselves.
Andrew continues to serve as a member of the 125th STS Air National Guard in Oregon. Through his service, he continues to show his dedication and support for his country and fellow veterans.
Anna Paulina Luna’s mother, Monica, spoke to a publication about her daughter’s heritage and religious background. Monica stated that Luna’s late husband was a Christian who embraced the Messianic faith and that Luna buried him according to Jewish customs. Monica also mentioned that her daughter has not identified as Hispanic, as far as she is aware, but her husband often spoke Spanish around her when she was a child.

The publication suggests that Luna has had the last name “Mayerhofer” since birth and has only recently opened up about her Hispanic heritage. When she first registered to vote in Florida in 2015, she was identified as “White, not of Hispanic origin”. However, when she re-registered to vote in Washington State in 2019, she updated her ethnicity to “Hispanic”. In the same year, she also filed a petition to change her last name from “Mayerhofer” to “Luna”.
