James Baker was born in Memphis, Tennessee, on May 19, 1996. His father, who is in prison for 25 years for rape gave him the name. In 2008, when Baker was 12, his father got out of jail and went to Baker’s house for a short time to see him.

Baker joined the Grape Street Watts Crips when he was 14 years old. Even though the gang is based in Los Angeles, it has a branch called the “Peda Roll Mafia” in Memphis.

Baker’s connection to the group is mentioned in many of his songs, like “Rover.” Baker did a home invasion in 2012 and went to prison for a month. The rest of his sentence was served at home. Baker has said that the invasion was “sloppy” and that the invaders didn’t wear masks and only used a BB gun.
