‘Blonde’ Trailer: Netflix Teases First Look At Ana De Armas As Marilyn Monroe

The first striking footage from Andrew Dominik’s “Blonde,” starring Ana de Armas as Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe, has emerged on Netflix. The film, which is based on Joyce Carol Oates’ bestselling novel, is renowned for its NC-17 rating. Bobby Cannavale, Adrien Brody, Julianne Nicholson, Xavier Samuel, and Evan Williams round out the supporting cast.

In the upcoming Netflix film Blonde, based on Joyce Carol Oates’ 2000 novel, the 34-year-old actress portrays the late Hollywood legend (who was born Norma Jeane Baker). According to an official summary, the dramatized picture “boldly reimagines the life of Marilyn Monroe, probing the divide between her public and private personas,” earning an NC-17 certification.

Beginning with Monroe’s tumultuous youth as Norma Jeane, the fictitious spin recounts Monroe’s rise to celebrity and her romantic entanglements. The film is a deliberate blending of fact and fiction that depicts Monroe’s developing divide between his public and private selves.

The one-minute teaser plays a haunting track of Monroe’s hit Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend over flickering shots of a few of Monroe’s more iconic moments in the spotlight, as well as the overwhelming media attention and the loneliness of being a star.

“Please come. don’t abandon me “At the start of the teaser clip, which released Thursday, a crying de Armas begs in front of a mirror in her dressing room.

The rest of the trailer shows de Armas’ Monroe onstage and in front of cameras, recreating the breezy white dress moment over a subway grate in New York City.

De Armas describes Dominik’s goals for the film as “quite obvious from the outset — to offer a version of Marilyn Monroe’s life through her perspective” in an interview for Netflix’s Queue.

“He wanted the rest of the world to know what it was like to be both Marilyn and Norma Jeane,” she continued. “I thought it was the most brave, unabashed, and feminist take on her narrative I’d ever seen.”

According to Netflix Queue, the actress spent two to three hours getting her hair and cosmetics done for the film, and de Armas did a lot of study before the shoot.

“We worked on this film for hours, every single day for almost a year. I read Joyce’s novel, studied hundreds of photographs, videos, audio recordings, films — anything I could get my hands on. Every scene is inspired by an existing photograph,” she said. “We’d pore over every detail in the photo and debate what was happening in it. The first question was always, ‘What was Norma Jeane feeling here?’ We wanted to tell the human side of her story.”

The film’s NC-17 rating apparently caused friction between Dominik and Netflix. However, the director told ScreenDaily in February that he has “nothing but gratitude for Netflix,” noting that the streaming giant backed the picture despite its content difficulties. Jennifer Lame, editor of “Hereditary” and “Tenet,” was “insisted” on by Netflix to “curb the movie’s excesses.” “Blonde,” Dominik continued, “is a demanding film.” If the audience doesn’t like it, then that’s the audience’s fault. It isn’t a campaign for public office.”

In a May interview with Vulture, Dominik said of the picture, “There’s something in there to upset everyone.”

“Blonde” will be available on Netflix worldwide on September 23. Its cast also features Bobby Cannavale, Adrien Brody, Julianne Nicholson, Xavier Samuel and Evan Williams.
