Bob Lee was an accomplished American tech executive and software engineer who founded Cash App, which revolutionized peer-to-peer payments. He was known for his innovative approach to app development and his ability to lead successful product teams.
In 2014, Lee left Square and invested in several tech startups, including Clubhouse, SpaceX, and Figma. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Lee also helped the World Health Organization with its app. In 2021, he joined the cryptocurrency payment firm MobileCoin as its chief product officer, where he continued to contribute his expertise to the tech industry until his untimely death.
Lee’s life and contributions to the tech industry came to a tragic end on April 4, 2023, when he was fatally stabbed in the Rincon Hill neighborhood of San Francisco. The killing remains unsolved, leaving many of his friends, family, and colleagues in shock and disbelief.
Lee was also survived by his ex-wife, Krista, with whom he had two daughters: Dagny and Scout. Dagny, who is nicknamed “Bobkat” after the protagonist of Ayn Rand’s novel Atlas Shrugged, is the elder of the two and has not yet been mentioned in connection to Lee’s tragic death. However, Scout, who is about 14 years old, is left to cope with the sudden loss of her father.
Lee and Krista separated in 2019, and Lee relocated to Miami with his father in October 2022. According to Krista’s Facebook profile, she still resides in the Bay Area with their two children. In July 2022, Lee sold his home in Marin County, leaving behind his ex-wife and their two daughters. Lee was survived by his father, Rick, and his brother, Tim Oliver.
