'RuPaul Drag Race' Cherry Valentine Died At The Age Of 28!

George Ward, who was best known by his stage name Cherry Valentine and was a contestant on “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” died at the age of 28.

The performer died on Sunday, but the cause of death is not clear at this time.

Ward became famous when she got a spot on the second season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race UK,” the British version of the popular US show.

After putting his name on the map, he went on to become a TV star and even had his own BBC documentary called “Gypsy Queen and Proud.”

“It is with the most heartbreaking and deepest sadness that I tell you that our George, Cherry Valentine, has tragically passed away,” Ward’s family said in a statement, according to BBC.

“This will be a huge shock to most people, and we understand that there is no easy way to tell them about it. As his family, we are still getting over his death, and our lives will never be the same.”

Cherry Valentine was a British drag performer and one of the contestants on Season 2 of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK.

He was best known for being in the second season of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK and for the BBC documentary Cherry Valentine: Gypsy Queen and Proud.

Valentine started to perform as a drag queen in 2018. He became a qualified mental health nurse in 2015 worked for the NHS and helped with the UK’s COVID-19 vaccine rollout.

Valentine was a Traveller, and he said that the “fabulous” women in his family were what inspired him to become a drag performer. He said, “In the Traveller community, there’s a lot of pressure on young people to get married, settle down, have a family, and get a job to support the family.” He also said that when he was young, he didn’t think that being a drag performer would be a good job.

Valentine said on Drag Race UK that they grew up in a strict environment where drag wasn’t accepted and that they hid their Traveller heritage in the LGBTQ community because they were afraid of “hate or backlash.”

Speaking to another contestant, Sister Sister, Valentine said, “Growing up gay did affect me. I don’t think I was completely normal at all.” Valentine hoped that sharing their story would be a reminder that LGBTQ people are everywhere.
