Donna Dixon and Dan Aykroyd are no longer together.
Despite the fact that they are still legally married and maintain a “loving friendship,” the Emmy Award winner and his wife of over 40 years confirmed their separation to PEOPLE exclusively on Friday.
“After 39 years as a married, we are now on separate life paths. “As co-parents, coworkers, and business partners, we’re still legally married.” The two tell PEOPLE in a joint statement.
“This is our dear friend’s decision.”
Aykroyd and Dixon, 64, married in 1983 after meeting on the set of the comedic film Doctor Detroit.
They went on to star in films like Twilight Zone: The Movie 1983, Spies Like Us 1985, The Couch Trip 1988, and Exit to Infinity 1989, among others Eden is a beautiful place 1989.
The couple’s three daughters are Danielle also known as singer-songwriter Vera Sola, 32, Belle, 28, and Stella, 24. The Saturday Night Live star discussed his lengthy connection with Dixon in a previous interview with the Tampa Bay Times.
“You have to discover the proper individual – look them in the eye, have them look back, and know their essence,” Aykroyd remarked in 2014.
“She’s a patient Southern lady who isn’t afraid to deal with the guys on occasion.” The White Goddess is how I refer to her. By the way, I’m the Green Demon.”
Aykroyd was engaged to the late Carrie Fisher in the early 1980s.
Dan Aykroyd is a Canadian comedian, actor, screenwriter, and entrepreneur with a net worth of $250 million. Aykroyd is best recognized for his roles in the “Ghostbusters” trilogy and as a founding member of “Saturday Night Live.”
He’s also a member of The Blues Brothers, a touring band that began as a “Saturday Night Live” spoof in 1978 and went double platinum after selling 3.5 million copies. Aykroyd co-founded the House of Blues concert venue/restaurant complex in 1992, and he launched Crystal Head Vodka with $600,000 in 2007. The vodka is offered in crystal skull-shaped bottles, and the company’s revenue had topped $80 million by 2018.

Aykroyd made his television debut at the age of 17 on the Canadian sketch comedy series “The Hart and Lorne Terrific Hour,” which aired from 1970 to 1971 and starred Hart Pomerantz and Lorne Michaels. Michaels later hired Dan for “Saturday Night Live” as a writer and performer. From 1975 until 1979, Aykroyd played Yortuk Festrunk, Beldar Conehead, and Elwood Blues, among other characters on the show. The Blues Brothers had their own film in 1980, and John Goodman replaced the late John Belushi in the 1998 sequel, “Blues Brothers 2000.”
Dan also appeared alongside Belushi in the films “1941” 1979 and “Neighbors” 1981, and he had planned to do so in “Ghostbusters” 1984. which Aykroyd began writing in the early 1980s, however, after Dan died of a heroin overdose in 1982, Dan recast the role of Peter Venkman for Bill Murray.

The 1984 film was a worldwide hit, generating a 1989 sequel, a 2016 revival in which Aykroyd played a cab driver, and a 1986–1991 animated series “The Real Ghostbusters”. He will reprise his role in “Ghostbusters: Afterlife,” which will be released in 2021.
