Despite their enduring connection, the couple did not have any children together. They first crossed paths in New Orleans when Leah hosted a book signing for Dexter’s memoir. According to Dexter’s cousin, Isaac Newton Farris Jr., the two built a life together reminiscent of the love and support Dexter experienced from his parents.
Dexter King was born in Atlanta in 1961 and got his name from Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama, where his dad first worked as a pastor. Sadly, when he was only seven years old, his father was killed in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1968.
King followed the path of his father and went to Morehouse College in Atlanta. Although he initially moved to California to pursue acting because of his passion for the arts, he later shifted his focus to dedicating himself to legally safeguarding his father’s legacy and the intellectual property connected to the King family’s work.
