Novak Djokovic, born on May 22, 1987, hails from Serbia and currently holds the world No. 2 ranking in singles according to the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP). He boasts an unparalleled achievement of spending a remarkable 389 weeks as the world No. 1 across 12 different years and has clinched the year-end No. 1 position a remarkable seven times.

In total, he has claimed 95 singles titles, featuring an impressive 68 Big Titles, encompassing 23 majors, an unmatched 39 Masters titles, and a shared record of six ATP Finals triumphs.
Now, shifting our focus from the spotlight on Djokovic’s recent US Open celebration, let’s delve into the intriguing topic of Djokovic’s wife and his victorious moment at the tournament.
Novak Djokovic, a prominent figure in the world of tennis, has been happily married to Jelena Djokovic (formerly known as Jelena Ristic) for an extended period. Jelena is not only a dedicated mother to their two children but also a committed humanitarian who works diligently to improve the lives of underprivileged children in Serbia. Despite her busy schedule, she always manages to support her husband by attending many of his tennis matches.
In June 2023, Jelena took to Instagram to celebrate Novak’s remarkable 23rd Grand Slam title, which he achieved with a victory at the French Open. She posted a heartfelt caption, “23 💕🎉🪷,” along with a touching photo of Novak alone and another charming snapshot featuring the couple happily posing with their two children on the tennis court.
Their relationship has a long history, as Jelena and Novak’s connection predates their 2014 marriage. In fact, they have been acquainted since their youth, having attended the same high school in their native Serbia.

Their romantic journey began during their school years while they were both engaged in tennis, and their love story spanned eight years before they became engaged in 2013, during Novak’s residence in Monte Carlo at that time.
In September 2017, Jelena gave birth to their daughter, Tara Djokovic, a joyous occasion that Novak celebrated on Instagram. His post expressed profound happiness and pride, acknowledging the remarkable journey of parenthood.
He extended his admiration to women worldwide for their resilience in creating and nurturing life. Novak also lovingly referred to Jelena and Tara as his angels, while Stefan, their elder son, embraced his role as a proud big brother, eager to assist with baby duties.
Completing their family, two poodles named Pierre and Tesla became cherished members. Jelena frequently showcased these furry companions on her Instagram, with a special tribute in 2019 for Pierre, their loyal and beloved first “boy” who had reached the age of 11.
After defeating Ben Shelton in the US Open semifinals, Novak Djokovic sent a message by imitating Shelton’s signature celebration. Djokovic won the match with a 6-3, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) victory and, as he walked toward the net for a quick handshake with Shelton, he enthusiastically mimicked Shelton’s “hanging up the phone” celebration, which has become famous during the young American’s impressive US Open journey.
Now, as the No. 2 seed, Djokovic moves on to the final on Sunday, where he will strive to win his 24th Grand Slam title, tying the all-time record with Australia’s Margaret Smith Court, who achieved 24 Grand Slam singles titles in the 1960s and 70s.
Djokovic explained with a smile, “I just love Ben’s celebration. I thought it was very original and I copied him. I stole his celebration.”
Shelton, on the other hand, expressed that he didn’t witness Djokovic’s imitation live but had no issue with it. He emphasized the importance of allowing players to celebrate in their own way after a win.
Earlier in the tournament, Shelton had described his celebration as a way of saying he’s “dialed in” and credited former Florida track star Grant Holloway for inspiring it. Shelton, who played college tennis for the Gators and resides in Gainesville, turned pro last year and had a successful run at the Australian Open and now the US Open, reaching the quarterfinals and beyond.
