The couple, who are now divorced, were together for 24 years until 2020 and had two children, Truice and Truly. Dr. Dre has four more children from previous relationships besides Truice and Truly.
Here’s everything you need to know about the reason behind Dr. Dre’s Divorce and how much he paid his ex-wife Nicole Young for the divorce settlement.
Why Did Dr. Dre And Nicole Young Divorce?
In June 2020, Young filed for divorce from Dr. Dre, citing irreconcilable differences.
After 24 years of marriage, Young first asked Dr. Dre for divorce in June 2020. In court documents, Young said that Dr. Dre abused him by “holding a gun to my head” twice in 2000 and 2001 and “punching me in the head/face” in 1999 and 2000, PEOPLE reported in January.
According to The Daily Mail, Young said in her filing that Andre kicked her out of their home on April 2 after a “night of brutal, alcohol-fueled rage” during which he told her to “get the f**k out.”
She also says that their marriage was “filled with all kinds of abuse,” and that he punched her more than once. Dre has been accused of sexual abuse more than once, but he has always denied it.
It was also said that Dr. Dre’s lawyer, Laura Wasser, had filed a bifurcation motion saying that Young had made “false allegations of domestic violence.” The motion showed that the couple’s “marriage has irreparably broken down” and that the rapper “no longer wants to be married to Young.”
Dr. Dre Divorce Settlement: How Much Did He Pay His Wife?
The hip-hop legend and his wife of almost 26 years, Nicole Young, split up in June 2020, and at the end of last year, it was said that they had finally come to an agreement about their difficult divorce. TMZ says that after 18 months of legal battles, the rapper agreed to pay Nicole $100 million.
In the terms of the settlement, Nicole got $50 million instantly and she will receive the other $50 million in one year. Nicole will also keep all of her jewelry and four cars: a Rolls Royce, a Range Rover, an Escalade limousine, and a Spyder motorcycle.
According to different reports, the former attorney is not eligible for spousal support, even though she reportedly wanted $2 million a month, and that she had to pay her own legal fees. According to court documents from July 2021, a Los Angeles Superior Court Judge told the rapper to pay Nicole $293,306 per month until a final decision on the settlement was made.
