Fleury Wife: He Ignores NHL, Wears Native American Mask For Wild

Born on November 28, 1984, Marc-André Fleury is a skilled Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender currently playing for the Minnesota Wild in the National Hockey League (NHL). Selected as the first overall pick by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), Fleury honed his skills during four seasons with the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles.

Joining the Penguins in the 2003–04 season, Fleury enjoyed a remarkable 13-year tenure with the team, clinching Stanley Cup championships in 2009, 2016, and 2017. His exceptional contributions were recognized with the William M. Jennings Trophy and the Vezina Trophy in 2021.

Transitioning to another aspect of interest, amidst the spotlight on Wild’s Marc-Andre Fleury for donning a Native American mask against the NHL’s directive, many individuals are intrigued by details about Fleury’s wife. In this article, we’ll delve into information about Fleury’s wife while also exploring the controversy surrounding the NHL’s decision to block Fleury’s custom mask for Native American Heritage Night.

Get To Know Fleury’s Wife: Veronique

Veronique and Marc-Andre Fleury’s love story traces back to their teenage years, having started dating at the age of 15. They sealed their commitment in a beautiful ceremony in 2012, and since then, the couple has expanded their family to include two daughters and a son, forming a tight-knit family of five. Veronique, a proud wife and mother, shares glimpses of her family life, showcasing heartwarming moments with her children and husband.

In addition to her roles as a mother and wife, Veronique manages to pursue her own interests. Graduating from Robert Morris Colonial in 2012, just two weeks before her wedding to Marc-Andre, she has also co-founded a boutique clothing company named Alex et Estelle. Juggling these responsibilities alongside her role as a mother of three reflects Veronique’s versatility and dedication.

Despite her busy schedule, Veronique remains a steadfast source of support for her husband, both on and off the ice. Marc-Andre Fleury frequently acknowledges her influence in keeping him grounded and focused throughout his career.

In a 2021 interview with ESPN, he expressed, “She’s always been there for me, and I don’t think I could have done it without her.” Veronique’s unwavering support has undeniably played a pivotal role in Marc-Andre’s achievements, both as a goaltender and as an individual.

NHL Blocks Fleury’s Custom Mask For Native American Heritage Night

Minnesota Wild goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury was informed by the NHL that he would not be allowed to wear a custom mask for the team’s Native American Heritage night, according to his agent Allan Walsh. The league, which prohibits players from donning specialty jerseys, masks, stickers, decals, or tape for theme nights, also extended this restriction to include warmups.

This decision follows the league’s previous ban on players using rainbow-colored tape for Pride nights, a move that was later reversed due to backlash from the hockey community. Additionally, teams are not permitted to dress players in themed jerseys for warmups this season, a response to some players opting out of Pride Night warmups featuring specialty jerseys in the previous season.

In light of the Wild’s celebration of Native American Heritage night against Colorado, Fleury had expressed a desire to honor his wife, Véronique, who is Native Canadian, with a specially designed mask. Walsh mentioned that Fleury was willing to pay any fine he might incur, but the NHL threatened the organization with an “additional significant fine.”

The specifics of these fines were not disclosed, and the Wild refrained from commenting on the matter. As of the time of inquiry, there was no immediate response from the NHL regarding the situation. Fleury, a three-time Stanley Cup champion and the recipient of the Vezina Trophy in 2021 as the league’s top goaltender, is 38 years old.
