About Joey Jordison Death: Jay Weinberg Leaves Slipknot After 10 Years

Nathan Jonas “Joey” Jordison, born on April 26, 1975, and passing away on July 26, 2021, was an American musician. He co-founded the heavy metal band Slipknot, where he served as the original drummer and was known as member #1. He also played guitar in the horror punk supergroup Murderdolls.

Jordison’s upbringing took place in Des Moines, Iowa, where he lived with his parents and two sisters. At the tender age of 8, he received his first drum kit. During the early stages of his career, he showcased his musical talents with various bands.

In this article, we will delve into the details of Joey Jordison’s passing, shedding light on the circumstances surrounding his death and his remarkable journey. Additionally, we will provide insights into the recent development of Slipknot drummer Jay Weinberg’s departure from the band after his decade-long tenure, with the band extending their best wishes to him.

The Reason Behind Joey Jordison’s Death

Joey Jordison tragically passed away at his residence, where he was found by his ex-girlfriend and the individual responsible for his affairs, Amanda Victoria. She became concerned when she hadn’t heard from his family for several days and sadly discovered that he had passed away.

Amanda Victoria described Joey as a “bad alcoholic with some other health issues,” with some of his followers linking his health problems to acute transverse myelitis, an ailment he battled in the 2010s. Many believed that transverse myelitis was the cause of Joey Jordison’s death.

In 2013, when Slipknot announced Jordison’s departure from the band, it marked a significant disagreement between Joey and the group.

Transverse myelitis, as defined by the National Institute of Health, is a condition characterized by inflammation of the spinal cord, which can disrupt central nervous system signals throughout the body, leading to paralysis, limb weakness, and other complications. The exact cause of Joey Jordison’s death, the drummer for Slipknot, remains unknown.

Joey Jordison was found lifeless in his home on July 26, 2021, and the details of his funeral were not disclosed. Now that we’ve discussed the circumstances of Slipknot drummer Joey Jordison’s passing, let’s delve into his career.

Joey Jordison’s Slipknot Journey: Joining And Departure

On November 28, 1995, Mark Anthony Cadavos approached Jordison while he was working and extended an invitation to join a new project known as the Pale Ones. Intrigued and feeling somewhat “lost” at that point, Jordison attended rehearsals at Anders Colsefni’s basement and was immediately drawn to this new musical endeavor.

Reflecting on that moment, he said, “I remember trying so hard not to smile, so I didn’t look like I wanted to join; I remained poker-faced, but I thought they ruled.” Many of Slipknot’s early discussions and developments took place while Jordison was working night shifts at Sinclair’s garage.

Of the eventual nine members, Joey was the third to join the band, ultimately making Slipknot pioneers of the new wave of American nu-metal. With two custom percussionists accompanying Jordison, their music was described by Rolling Stone as “suffocating.”

In the unique world of Slipknot, each member is assigned a number, and Joey was given “#1.” He played a pivotal role in producing one album with Slipknot, the 2005 live album “9.0: Live.” In August 2008, Jordison suffered a broken ankle, leading to the cancellation of some English tour dates.

On August 22, 2009, he was rushed to the emergency room due to a burst appendix, just an hour before he was set to perform at Auburn, Washington’s KISW Pain in the Grass concert. Consequently, Slipknot had to cancel subsequent shows in August and September to allow Jordison to recover.

However, on December 12, 2013, Slipknot announced through their official website that Jordison had departed from the band, citing personal reasons for his exit. In response, Jordison released a statement asserting that he had, in fact, been fired from the band and emphasized his deep connection to Slipknot, stating that it had been his life for the last 18 years, and he would never willingly abandon it or his fans.

Slipknot Announces Departure Of Drummer Jay Weinberg After 10 Years

Grammy-winning heavy metal band Slipknot revealed their decision to part ways with drummer Jay Weinberg in an official statement on their website. Weinberg had taken over the role from the band’s original drummer, Joey Jordison, who left in 2013.

The statement expressed the band’s gratitude for Weinberg’s dedication and contributions over the past decade while acknowledging that no one could replace Joey Jordison’s unique sound, style, and energy. The circumstances surrounding Weinberg’s departure were not disclosed, and Slipknot’s representative was approached for further details.

The statement also highlighted Slipknot’s commitment to evolution and creative decisions, stating their intent to move forward without Jay. They wished him the best in his future endeavors.

Jay Weinberg’s last performance in 2023 was noted in his recent Instagram post at the Hell & Heaven Metal Fest in Toluca, Mexico. He reflected on the memorable year of shows and expressed his excitement for what lies ahead.

Jay Weinberg, the son of Bruce Springsteen’s drummer Max Weinberg, joined Slipknot in December 2013. Prior to his tenure with Slipknot, he had performed with various groups, including Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, Against Me!, Kvelertak, and Madball.
