Mickey Joseph is a legend in Louisiana high school football and has strong ties to New Orleans. In 2020, he will start his fourth season as the wide receivers coach at LSU. Johnson is also the Tigers’ assistant head coach, a position he was given in February 2020. He was born on March 5, 1968.
Joseph has been coaching for more than 20 years and also played quarterback for four years at Nebraska under Tom Osborne.
Joseph was in charge of putting the best group of receivers in SEC history on the field in 2019. Ja’Marr Chase, Justin Jefferson, and Terrace Marshall, LSU’s three starters, caught 241 passes for 3,991 yards and 51 touchdowns between them. LSU’s offense broke many SEC records in 2019, including passing yards (6,024), passing touchdowns (61), and total offense (568.4).

In his first year at LSU, Joseph helped turn wide receiver DJ Chark into an explosive playmaker. He was one of the leaders in the SEC in yards per catch (21.9) and yards per game (67.2). Chark made the All-SEC second team after catching 40 passes for 874 yards and three touchdowns. He was also a threat in the punt return game.
He led the SEC with two punt return touchdowns, finished second in the league with 190 punt return yards, and averaged over 10 yards per punt return (10.6).

His 75-yard punt return for a touchdown against Auburn helped the Tigers come back from a 20-point first-half deficit to win 27-23. It was the biggest SEC comeback in Tiger Stadium history for LSU.
Joseph joined the LSU team in 2016 after coaching running backs at Louisiana Tech. In his one year in Ruston, Joseph helped the Bulldogs to a 9-5 overall record and a 48-45 win over the 25th-ranked Navy in the Armed Forces Bowl.
In 2016, the Bulldogs averaged 44.3 points per game, which put them at No. 2 in the country for scoring. Tech averaged 514.9 yards per game, including 363.4 yards through the air and 151.6 yards on the ground.
