Sergey Brin, who helped start Google and has a net worth of $93 billion, wants the judge in his upcoming divorce to stop paying his soon-to-be ex-wife spousal support. Brin is one of the richest people in the world. Brin is also not asking her to give him any money.
The piece of information comes from Brin’s divorce from Nicole Shanahan, an attorney, and business owner. About four years ago, they got married in secret and had a daughter the same year. Now, Brin seems to want a divorce that is just as quiet, based on documents filed with the Santa Clara Superior Court and first seen by Insider.
The divorce papers filed on January 6, 2022, with the Superior Court of California in the County of Santa Clara say that Brin and Shanahan want to split up because they have “irreconcilable differences.” The papers also say that Brin and Shanahan have been living apart since December of last year.
It’s important to note that this isn’t Brin’s first time at the rodeo. Before he started dating Shanahan, he had already split up with the founder of 23andMe, Anne Wojcicki, in 2015. Wojcicki and Brin had been married for about eight years and had two kids together. That same year, he started dating Shanahan.
Brin is worth a whopping $93.1 billion (!!! ), and Shanahan is a mogul in her own right (she’s a lawyer and runs a foundation), so it’s still not clear how their assets will be split. In the court filing, Brin’s lawyers asked the court to stop giving Shanahan spousal or domestic partner support and said that “all issues regarding the property rights or obligations of the parties will be decided by confidential binding arbitration in accordance with a written agreement between the parties.”
What is clear is how he feels about the child that he and Wojcicki have together. According to the filing, Brin wants to share legal and physical custody of their child, just like he did with the kids he had with Wojcicki after they broke up.
