Summer is almost here, and Prime Video has just the right show to get ready for the warm weather. The Summer I Turned Pretty, Amazon’s new coming-of-age TV show, will premiere on June 17, taking viewers into a season of teenage drama and angst. The show is based on Jenny Han’s book of the same name, which is the first in a series of three books for young adults. So, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that there will be a second season.
In The Summer I Turned Pretty, a girl named Belly (Lola Tung) falls in love with three people: two brothers named Conrad (Christopher Briney) and Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno). What would normally be a normal vacation for Belly and her mother, Laurel (Jackie Chung), brother, Steven (Sean Kauffman), and family friend, Susannah (Rachel Blanchard), quickly turns into a journey of self-discovery and desire. In the background of first loves and first heartbreaks, motherhood and female friendship take center stage during one perfect summer.
Season 2 has been confirmed, so here’s what we know so far about what will happen to Belly and her family and friends next summer.
Release Date Of The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 2
The Summer I Turned Pretty will have a second season, Deadline reported a week before the show’s premiere. Given the name of the show and how long it is thought to take to make, it would make sense for Season 2 to come out in the summer of 2023.
The report also said that the author of the book, Jenny Han, would be back as showrunner and executive producer for Season 2. Having Han on board is a pretty good sign for future seasons of the show since she was also an executive producer of the To All the Boys movie trilogy. If Amazon’s show is as popular as Netflix’s hit romantic comedy, The Summer I Turned Pretty may get a third party to finish the adaptation.
Cast Of The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 2
Since Belly is still the main character in the book trilogy, it’s likely that the TV show’s main character, Lola Tung, will be in the spotlight in its second season. The same can be said about Christopher Briney, who plays Conrad, and Gavin Casalegno, who plays Jeremiah. It’s Not Summer Without You, the book’s sequel is built around both of them. Jackie Chung, who plays Belly’s mom Laurel, and Sean Kauffman, who plays Belly’s brother Steven, will probably be in Season 2. Last but not least, since Rachel Blanchard’s character Susannah getting sick is the key to the second book, it’s probably a safe bet that she’ll also be in the second season, which has already been confirmed.
Plot Of The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 2
The TV show is based on Jenny Han’s book The Summer I Turned Pretty. The name of the author, Han, might sound familiar because she wrote the best-selling To All The Boys I Loved Before books, which were turned into a Netflix movie trilogy. Han wrote the pilot for The Summer I Turned Pretty and, along with Gabrielle Stanton, ran the show. He is an expert on teenage heartbreak. To All the Boys was made into a movie first, but The Summer I Turned Pretty was Han’s first young adult book. The Summer series, which has books like “It’s Not Summer Without You” and “We’ll Always Have Summer,” will probably be the basis for Season 2, which has already been announced.
If Season 2 is like the book that comes after it, there will be more love triangle drama. In the second book, Susannah gets sick, Conrad isn’t as close to Belly, and Belly isn’t too excited about summer. In fact, it’s not until Jeremiah tells Belly that Conrad has completely vanished that Belly realizes she needs to go back to her beach house at Cousins Beach and try to fix things between them. Even though the next episode of the TV show might shake things up, we can be sure that some of the main storylines from the book will show up in the Prime Video series.
