She said, “I’d been having a terrible time.” “After six and a half years of dating and working with Dave Wolff, I broke up with him. I had left the place we shared and was now living in a hotel room. I felt a lot of sadness. Even worse, I put myself in a situation where I couldn’t win with this man who wasn’t very attractive. He treated me like hell. Then, that was over. I thought I was ugly, dull, and a mess. I thought my time as an artist was over.”

Cyndi then met David. “When we began practicing, David was very shy around me. “I started sending him notes that teased him because that’s what I do when I like someone,” she said. “After dinner, we would walk on the beach at night. The moon was always out on the water, and one night I said, “I wish I was a kite flying over the waves.” He replied, “Why not be a wave?” I thought, “Oh my God, this guy is a poet!”

After dating for only two weeks, Cyndi and David both started talking about getting married. On November 24, 1991, the pair tied the knot.
