Meet Zdeno Chara’s Wife As He Finishes Boston Marathon In Under 4 Hours

Zdeno Chára, a former Slovakian professional ice hockey defenceman, spent 24 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) representing teams such as the New York Islanders, Ottawa Senators, Boston Bruins, and Washington Capitals from 1997 to 2022. He holds the distinction of being the tallest player to have ever played in the NHL at a towering height of 6 ft 9 in (2.06 m), earning him the moniker “Big Z”.

Zdeno has achieved another remarkable feat by completing the iconic Boston Marathon in just over 3 and a half hours. The former Bruins star participated in the 127th edition of the event, covering a distance of 26.2 miles, and finished with a time of 03:38:23, which translates to a pace of 8 minutes and 20 seconds per mile. It’s worth noting that the Boston Marathon attracts around 30,000 athletes from over 100 nations worldwide.

However, there is more to this athlete than just his impressive record in the NHL. Zdeno Chara is a family man, married to his long-time girlfriend Tatiana Biskupicova, and the father of three beautiful children.

Zdeno Chara and Tatiana Biskupicova tied the knot on July 14, 2007, in a Catholic church in Nemšová, Slovakia, after dating for almost a decade. Their wedding was kept private, so not much is known about the details of the ceremony.

Tatiana used to work as a financial planner at TD Bank before prioritizing her role as a mother to their three children. Zdeno Chara’s pursuit of knowledge is not limited to the hockey rink. His wife’s knowledge of finance inspired him to get his degree in financial planning. According to Boston.com, Chara enrolled at Algonquin in 2001 and earned his degree in financial planning four years later. Chara explained that he wanted to understand how the system worked and did not do it to impress anyone.

Although Zdeno Chara and his family maintain a low profile, the hockey star is not shy about expressing his love for his wife on social media. In a post last year, he wrote a beautiful tribute to Tatiana, saying, “Tanicka, you are so beautiful to me. I am lucky to have you in my life. A loving and caring person is always here to help and support. One life, one family, one journey. Three beautiful children. You are leading us every day. You are our best friend.”

The couple welcomed their first child, daughter Elliz Victoria Chára (Chárová), on April 27, 2009, in Boston. They then became parents to twin boys, Zack and Ben, on March 7, 2016. The family remains busy with school-going children running in all directions, according to reports.

Becoming a parent has been a life-changing experience for Zdeno and Tatiana, and the former Bruins captain has shared his thoughts on parenting in social media posts. In one such post, he wrote, “Children are very precious and beautiful small human beings. They are both soft and hard. As parents, they make us the happiest and, if something bad happens, the most afraid people in the world. So pure and honest that it makes you wonder how hard it must be to stay this way for a long time. So much is based on how much money we make and how wealthy we become. Let’s not teach our kids to be wealthy. Let’s show them how to enjoy life. So that when they grow up, they will know what things are really worth, not just how much they cost.”
