Who Is Jonathan Capehart’s Husband? Meet Nick Schmit

Jonathan T. Capehart is an American journalist and TV commentator. He writes for The Washington Post’s PostPartisan blog and is the host of The Sunday Show with Jonathan Capehart on MSNBC.

Capehart was a key part of a New York Daily News staff piece that won the Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Writing in 1999. The series of editorials criticized how the Apollo Theater in Harlem handled its finances.

Talking about his personal life, Jonathan Capehart is a married man. He was in a relationship with his boyfriend, Nick Schmit, which proves that he is gay.

During their dates, they talked about many things, from the fact that they were 13 years apart in age to where they got their hair cut to their political views. Capehart finally gave Schmit a key to his apartment two years after they started dating. They were in a relationship for 5 years. The couple got engaged in May 2016 and got married on January 7, 2017.

They got married on January 7 at the Jefferson Hotel in Washington, D.C. According to reports, Schmit read his vows first, promising to love his “best friend” in “the best and the worst of times.” After that, Capehart said his vows while singing the words to the song “That’s All.”

Know About Nick Schmit

Nick Schmit was born on December 30, 1980.  He went to college at the University of North Dakota, and after he graduated, Schmit worked for the Clinton Foundation for two years. There, he was in charge of finance and worked closely with Hillary Clinton.

From 2007 to 2008, Schmit worked as the Travel Compliance Director for the Hillary for America presidential campaign in Washington, D.C. In his job description, it says, “Served as liaison between CFO and Legal Department to follow the development of new Federal Election Commission and Senate Ethics Committee regulations and designed campaign protocol to make sure compliance.”

Schmit then went back to the Clinton Foundation as a counselor for one year. Schmit served as the Assistant Chief of Protocol for Diplomatic Partnerships at the U.S. Department of State in 2009. He stayed there until 2017.

In 2007, Capehart became a journalist for The Washington Post and a member of its editorial board. He keeps doing that job and is also a commentator for MSNBC. He is also the host of the Cape Up podcast, in which he talks with people in the news about the race, religion, age, gender, and cultural identity in politics. In 2018, Capehart started being a guest host on the WNYC radio show Midday on WNYC, which used to be called The Leonard Lopate Show.

Mark Shields was replaced by Capehart on the PBS NewsHour’s Friday political commentary segment in January 2021. Capehart became the associate editor of The Washington Post on March 30, 2022.
