Jennifer Shah, who was on Bravo’s “Real Housewives of Salt Lake City,” was given a six-and-a-half-year prison sentence for stealing money from thousands of elderly and vulnerable people through a long-running telemarketing scam.
The judge, Sidney Stein, gave a sentence of 10 years in prison and five years of supervision. Shah asked for a three-year sentence. The latest reality star whose phony fame and lavish lifestyle was exposed, asked for three years in prison.
She could have gotten up to 14 years for what she did. Shah’s lawyer, Priya Chaudhry, said in a statement on Friday that Shah “deeply regrets the mistakes she has made and is deeply sorry to the people she has hurt.”
“Jen believes in our justice system, knows that anyone who breaks the law will be punished, and agrees that this sentence is fair,” the statement said. “Jen will pay back what she owes to society, and when she is free again, she promises to pay back what she owes to the people she hurt because of her mistakes.”
Sharrieff Shah Sr., Jen Shah’s husband, asked the judge to be kind to his wife when she is sentenced for fraud on 6 January. The college football coach went on to say that the couple’s tense relationship caused her to “make disastrously bad business decisions and get close to bad people.” In fact, the former lawyer put most of the blame on himself. He said his constant traveling and being away from home made his wife make bad decisions.
Jen thanked her husband for being by her side after she was arrested and charged. During an Instagram Live appearance with Bravo, she said, “God literally sent an angel to me in the form of Coach Shah to deal with my crazy ass.”
