She wrote, “It is with a heavy heart that we must inform you that we all lost our best friend,” she said. “Lin Brehmer fought cancer as long as he could. He passed early this morning, peacefully, with his wife and son by his side. We’ll hold each other up through this heart-breaking time, Lin would want that. Take nothing for granted.”

He resumed his radio show for a few weeks in November and December of 2022.

On January 22, 2023, he passed away. His death was announced by his long-time colleague Terri Hemmert on WXRT and acknowledged by the Chicago Cubs with a message on the Wrigley Field marquee. Former Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel remembered Brehmer as the “voice of Chicago” with a unique and engaging voice, and shared that he announced a music district concept on his show.
