Niccolò “Nico” Mannion, is an Italian-American basketball player currently with Saski Baskonia in the Spanish Liga ACB and EuroLeague. He played college ball at Arizona and attended Pinnacle High School in Phoenix, where he was a top-ranked point guard. Despite growing up in the US, Mannion represents Italy in international play.

He is currently representing the Milwaukee Bucks in the 2023 NBA Summer League, following his rookie season with the Golden State Warriors in 2020-21. The Pinnacle High graduate contributed 16 points, four rebounds, and three assists, albeit with four turnovers, in a 92-85 victory against the Denver Nuggets on Friday(7 July), shooting 7-of-14 (1-of-6 from beyond the arc).

Former Golden State Warriors guard Nico Mannion has reportedly made a full recovery from a severe intestinal infection he contracted overseas, as reported by Anthony Slater of The Athletic. Mannion had initially started experiencing the health issue while representing the Italian national team during the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.
While the exact cause of the infection remains unknown, Mannion visibly experienced significant weight loss as a result of it.

During the summer of 2021, Mannion was with Virtus Bologna in Italy following his season with the Warriors. Unfortunately, he was unable to play due to the infection. However, he managed to regain 17 pounds of the weight he had lost and commenced individual training.
Mannion seemed to be making progress in recovering from the infection after undergoing treatment from specialists at Sant’Orsola Hospital in Bologna. He continued his training to restore his strength before making a return to the court.

With a clear path ahead, Mannion explosively maneuvered past the defender, soared into the air, and executed a powerful two-handed finish on Friday night. This marked his triumphant return to the NBA.
Reflecting on the play, Mannion admitted his own surprise at the abundance of space in the paint. Having spent the past two years in Europe, where defensive three seconds are not enforced, he hadn’t witnessed such an open paint in quite some time. Trusting his instincts, he seized the opportunity and delivered a thrilling performance.
