Scott Jameson Jones is a former bishop of the United Methodist Church, who was elected in 2004 and served until his retirement and subsequent resignation from the episcopal office in January 2023.
While Jones’s professional accomplishments are notable, it is his personal life that has garnered attention over the years. In particular, his third wife, Vee Vee Jones, has made headlines for her public Twitter shaming of her husband in 2014, in which she accused him of adultery. This article takes a closer look at the controversy surrounding Scott Jones’s wife.
Scott Jones attended the University of Kansas, where he met his wife, Mary Lou Reece, whom he married on 18 August 1979. Mary Lou is the president of Reece Construction Company, which has offices in Salina, Kansas, and Prosper, Texas. The couple has three children and five grandchildren.
Scott Jones’s younger brother, L. Gregory Jones, is an accomplished academic and theologian. He is the Williams Professor of Theology and Christian Ministry at Duke Divinity School and a Senior Fellow of the Fuqua-Coach K Center on Leadership and Ethics and Leadership Education at Duke Divinity.

In 2014, Scott Jones was accused of having an affair with a colleague at ChaCha, a boutique search engine he created. His wife, Vee Vee Jones, took to Twitter to publicly shame him, accusing him of adultery. She made several abusive tweets, which are too unsuitable to repeat. The scandal made headlines, not only because of the allegation of adultery but also because of the vitriolic tweets that followed.
The couple met via match.com, and they got married in November 2011. According to Mrs. Jones’s blog, she fell pregnant a month into their relationship, and Mr. Jones cheated on her when she was eight months pregnant. She claimed she was going to leave him, but Mr. Jones was diagnosed with cancer, so she stayed. Mrs. Jones also claimed that Mr. Jones fell out of love with her between Thanksgiving and Christmas, when she realized she had gained weight due to her pregnancy, was puking six times a day, couldn’t go out to eat, and had no sex.
The couple lived in a mansion on a 53-acre estate in Carmel, Indiana, with their children. The house was featured on MTV’s Teen Cribs, with Kim Kardashian announcing that it was the winner. According to CNN Money, the house had a 33-foot-high great room, an indoor tree house, a circular mahogany slide connecting two floors, a 25-foot-long saltwater aquarium, two waterfalls in the master bathroom, a separate indoor basketball court, and a full-scale cast of a T. rex skull.
Forbes reported that the house was divided into 46 audio and video zones, 246 lighting circuits, and numerous security cameras and sensors. Even the boys’ treehouse was wired with a T1 line for high-speed internet access. The master suite could only be accessed by pressing fingerprints against a security pad.

Scott Jones did not reply to any of Vee Vee’s tweets, and his last message before the controversy read, “We must become the change we want to see” – Mahatma Gandhi. The couple remained married despite the controversy.
Scott Jones retired from the Episcopal office in January 2023 and subsequently resigned. While the controversy surrounding his third wife’s public Twitter shaming has not played a direct role in his retirement and resignation, it does raise questions about the private lives of public figures.
