Why Is Sean Penn Trending On Twitter? Shows Support For Ukraine And Gets Trolled

Sean Penn, an actor, and filmmaker from Hollywood made headlines last month when he loaned his Oscar statuette to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy during a visit to Kyiv. Penn had been blacklisted by Russia for opposing Russia’s war in Ukraine.

Penn, who is filming a documentary in Ukraine and making his third visit during the war, was awarded the Order of Merit by President Zelenskiy for bolstering ties, supporting Ukraine’s territorial integrity, and promoting the country’s profile, according to the administration.

Sean Penn Voices Opinion To Support Ukraine, Gets Blasted On Twitter

The former Governor of New York, Andrew Cuomo, and Actor/Activist Sean Penn had a lengthy conversation on the situation in Ukraine.

Penn had previously threatened to burn his Oscars in support of Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy. However, he later decided to give one of his trophies to the country instead as a good luck charm in its ongoing war with Russia.

Zelenskyy said in the caption of his Instagram photo that this was Penn’s third trip to Ukraine during the war. The actor went there in November last year to film a Vice documentary before the invasion. He came back to the country in February and later said that he had walked miles to the Polish border. He went on another trip in June. Penn met Zelenskyy for the first time the day before Russia’s invasion, he said, when he went to Ukraine to film a documentary about the conflict earlier this year.

“I don’t know that there’s a person on earth [like Zelenskyy] who could know that they were born for such a day, that they could rise to it,” Penn told Fox News’ Sean Hannity, later adding, “In him, I saw something that I’d never seen before in my lifetime.… It is clear to me that the Ukrainians will win this. The question is, at what cost?”

So as Penn has spent time with the people of Ukraine, met with President Zelenskyy, and visited the front lines during the current fighting, he did not hesitate from sharing his opinion. He informs the Governor of his observations and observations about the resiliency and power of the Ukrainian people.

He told Cuomo about what he had seen and what he thought about how strong and resilient the Ukrainian people were. Most people might have been upset when he said that the US public should have been more on board with the war in Ukraine from the start.

Sean said, “I wish that we had been as bold immediately as we are cumulatively being in support because already there’s numbers as much as many as perhaps 20,000 dead in Ukraine, incredible infrastructure damage, but there is no doubt in my mind that Ukraine Will Survive that and prevail”.

He then pleaded with the American conscience by saying, ‘You know it’s always been my feeling that you know our national conscience is going to have to you know accept that perhaps we let too many people die and too much damage be done though we are now escalating the support”

Immediately after his statement, a flood of tweets appeared, the vast majority of which were critical of him. Given that Sean Penn is an actor, many tweets poked fun at the fact that his words carry less weight.

User @Crash67RTR said, “I was just going to say that they get paid to lie and be someone else. remember the closest thing Sean Penn got to being himself was in I AM SAM.” User Margo tweeted that Penn and the Ukrainian President are most likely in cahoots.

Other comments were less than amusing too, as user berndt_jerry noted, “He’s a grown man who plays make believe for a living! His main skill set is memorizing scripts. Bwahahahahahahahaha!!!”
