Tipesa’s time on Long Beach State’s women’s basketball team was actually how the first two met.
They met through a friend who was also a teammate of Tipsa’s. Gray and her friend didn’t meet until one summer when Gray went to see her friend. Gray gushed on Sister Roger’s Gaborhood podcast about how she fell in love with her the first time she saw her.
She said, “Head over heels, almost by an incident that occurred. She didn’t know, though. She didn’t even look in my direction. In short, she definitely caught my attention.”
Chelsea Gray married her longtime girlfriend, Tipesa Mercedes Moorer, in Los Angeles.

According to OutSports, Gray’s teammate Candace Parker, former Sparks player Ify Ibekwe, and Chicago Sky player Jantel Lavender were all at the ceremony at the Bel Air Club.
Gray is from Hayward, California. On June 27, 2018, she posted on Instagram that she was going to marry her now-wife. In the picture, the two women are smiling and sharing a romantic moment under a bright blue sky that looks like something out of Hollywood. Moorer, who is also from California and is from Harbor City, sparks fly as she shows the camera her engagement ring.
Gray wrote, “I can’t wait at all.” “My everything.”
Last year, on their second anniversary, Gray posted an old photo from their wedding day on Instagram with the words, “Love doing life with you! Congratulations, lovely! #2YearsDown.”
Tipesa also wrote on Instagram about their wedding anniversary: “As happy and giddy as the day I married you. Happy anniversary to my love.”
In 2022, the couple is going to celebrate their third anniversary.
Tipesa played the sport while she was a student at California State University, Long Beach, where she got a bachelor’s degree in communications and a minor in marketing.
After playing for four years, from her freshman to senior year, she joined the staff of the Long Beach women’s basketball team and became its director of operations.

She has since left her job and now works in the field of logistics, which allows her to work around her Olympic gold medalist wife’s work schedule.
