When Did Jerrod Carmichael Come Out As A Gay?
During the same HBO special, the former host of “Saturday Night Live” came out as gay. During the show, which was in February 2022, Jerrod talked about his family while making his announcement. The Home Video star disclosed to the audience that his father cheated on his mother when he was growing up. He then told the truth about a “secret” he had been keeping hidden his whole life.
“Once that was out in the open, I felt like a liar because I was hiding something,” he said. “One that I didn’t tell my dad, mom, family, friends, or you. Professionally, and personally, the secret is that I’m gay.”
Carmichael has been very open about the fact that he is gay. And his friend Ari Katcher was a big part of how his comedy special helped him come out.

Carmichael told Vanity Fair, “I called Ari Katcher just to talk about something, but it sounded like stand-up, and I thought, “Oh yeah, here’s an art form I hadn’t touched in four or five years. That’s pretty immediate.” I could go to the comedy store tonight instead of waiting for a cinematographer to be free. So I did, and I said things because I hadn’t talked about being gay on stage before. So, when I say it, it’s almost like I’ve learned how to say it and how to act it out.”
