The long-running and popular morning radio show The Breakfast Club on iHeart Media isn’t going anywhere, but one of the show’s three hosts is.
Angela Yee, who has co-hosted the Breakfast Club with Charlamagne Tha God (real name Lenard McKelvey) and DJ Envy (real name Raashaun Casey), said Wednesday morning that she was leaving the show to start her own radio show this fall.
“I have decided to leave the Breakfast Club. “The Breakfast Club will be different, but I’ll have my own daily show,” Yee said.
“It’s a lot of fun, and I can’t believe it’s happening,” Yee said that the details of her new show, like when it will start and how many markets it will be shown in, are not yet set in stone. She didn’t say when her last Breakfast Club show would be.
Yee’s two cryptic tweets late Tuesday sparked a lot of talk on Twitter about her leaving. “God is good,” she wrote in the first, and then she added, “The breakfast club as you know it is officially over.”
On Wednesday morning, the three hosts made a bit about the rumors that Yee was leaving. During the 7 o’clock hour, they talked about Serena Williams’ essay in Vogue about “evolving” away from tennis. They asked listeners to call in and answer the question, “When do you know it’s time to walk away?” Charlamagne then asked Yee the same question again, and she said, “Right now.” But she didn’t say anything more, even though her co-hosts said they didn’t know what was going on.

Angela Yee Announces Her Own Show
Angela Yee said on Wednesday’s episode of The Breakfast Club that she will be leaving the show, but she will still be a part of the iHeartRadio family as a whole. She also said that she will soon have her own show, which will be a daily show that will air all over the country.
She told Charlamagne tha God and DJ Envy on Wednesday, “This is very exciting, I’ve been looking forward to doing this for years, long before the pandemic. I actually sat down with our big boss and told her, “Look, I really want my own show.” I have a podcast called “Lip Service,” and I thought I might be able to get a weekend situation.”
Angela said that getting something like that had “always been a goal” of hers, and that the chance to do so had recently come up.
“They came up to me at iHeart… “They called me up and told me they were going to give me my own show,” she said. She also confirmed that she was leaving The Breakfast Club, but Charlamagne and Envy would go on without her.
“This is just a great chance,” she said as she thanked people like longtime listeners and supporters who had made this moment possible. “I feel very thankful and very blessed.”
