On Friday, November 4, 2022, the news of the separation of novelist Neil Gaiman and performance artist and singer Amanda Palmer was made public.
They wrote in a joint statement, “Hi Everyone. Neil is posting this on his blog as well. After many years of marriage, we have made the difficult decision to divorce. While we will no longer be partners in marriage, we will remain in one another’s lives as co-parents committed to raising our wonderful son in a loving and compassionate environment. We deeply appreciate everyone respecting our family’s privacy so we can focus on our son and entering this new chapter in our lives.”

In May 2020, Neil Gaiman traveled from New Zealand to his vacation home on the Isle of Skye, disregarding the COVID-19 lockdown rules that were in place.
Following his departure, Amanda Palmer made a public announcement on her Patreon page that she and Gaiman had separated and asked for privacy. In a blog post, Gaiman acknowledged that the split was his fault and also requested privacy. Despite the separation, the couple later issued a joint statement clarifying that they were not going through a divorce and eventually reconciled in 2021.

According to a 2019 interview with The Times, Palmer and Gaiman were introduced through a mutual friend, and despite leading different lifestyles, they became fascinated with each other.

Gaiman and Palmer got married in a small ceremony in January 2011 after dating for two years. However, they reportedly had an informal wedding celebration in New Orleans in November 2010 during Gaiman’s 50th birthday celebration. It has been reported that the flash mob wedding was planned by Amanda Palmer.
