Bono’s wife Ali Hewson was his inspiration when they met when he was a teenager, and they have been madly in love ever since. Hewson told The Telegraph in 2008 that she met the musician while walking to the school bus stop. “He was my first real boyfriend,” she said. “We got together in 1976, the same year that [U2] started. I saw their first show in the gym of our school.”
In June 2016, Bono told the same story as his wife at the annual Glamour Women of the Year Awards. He also said that the big event was happening on a very important day for the two of them. “We were teenagers. We both went to high school at the same place,” he told Entertainment Tonight. “It just so happens that I walked her to her bus this afternoon [in 1976]—isn’t that crazy?”

In 1982, Bono and Ali got married. These two sweethearts have started a family. Jordan Hewson, their first child, was born on May 10, 1989. The actress Eve Hewson was their second child. Ali Hewson was born on March 23, 1961. She grew up in the Dublin suburb of Raheny, which is in the city’s north. The Telegraph says that in 1989, she got a degree in sociology and political science from the University College Dublin. Her degree has helped her be an activist all her life. In the 1990s, she worked with anti-nuclear groups and charities to help the children who had been hurt by Chornobyl. She also led a campaign to send 1.5 million postcards from Irish people to the British Prime Minister at the time, Tony Blair, to raise awareness of the risk of radioactive pollution from the Sellafield nuclear plant drifting over to Ireland.
She told The Telegraph, “I know how I want to try to live my life.” “I know that I don’t want to leave behind any darkness. I think we should all be responsible for making sure not to hurt other people. It starts with your small, innocent children. You see how trusting they are. Because of what happened to the children there, I got involved in the Chornobyl project.”
