California Governor Gavin Newsom claimed in a recent interview on CNN’s “The Axe Files” podcast that his ex-wife Kimberly Guilfoyle was a “different person” during their marriage but became a right-wing personality after “falling prey” to the culture at Fox News shortly after she started working there in 2006.

The comments Newsom made on the podcast hosted by former Obama senior advisor David Axelrod are notable because they go beyond the brief responses Newsom generally gives when asked about his ex-wife. After dating Donald Trump Jr., Guilfoyle and his father divorced in the early 2000s, and since then she has become a well-known Fox News personality and advisor to Trump Sr. Newsom didn’t hold back when pressed by Axelrod about why she seemed to have gone from being a progressive idealist to a conservative firebrand.

“She’s always had the attitude of a prosecutor, and that’s how she thinks about her job. She’s brilliant, but I think she got caught up in the atmosphere at Fox and made some poor decisions “To quote Newsom: “That’s not how she sees things at all; she might even say that she “discovered the light.” It’s clear that our perspectives are different.”
