Lizzo Is Recognized For Championing Body Positivity
Despite being subjected to body shaming throughout her career, Lizzo has emerged as a role model for body positivity and self-confidence, with the internet and social media playing a crucial role in changing the narrative around the size and providing a platform for the visibility of overweight women.
However, in December 2019, Lizzo’s on-camera dance and twerk at a Los Angeles Lakers game while wearing a thong-revealing dress sparked controversy. In response to criticism, she maintained that her style of dress had always been a reflection of her personality.
In a March 2022 interview with People, she shared that she has come to accept her body as it is. She stated, “I believe that I have a really attractive body! It might not be everyone’s preferred body type, just like how Kim Kardashian might not be someone’s ideal, but she is a body icon who has established a contemporary beauty norm.” Lizzo also explained that she is taking charge of her confidence and power to establish her own definition of beauty.
