Steve Wright was born in 1954 in Greenwich, south London, and began his career at the BBC as a clerk. He briefly left in 1976 to work for Thames Valley Radio but returned four years later to host weekend programs.
In 1980, he joined BBC Radio 1 to host a Saturday evening show, followed by “Steve Wright In The Afternoon” until 1993. He then presented the Radio 1 Breakfast show until 1995, before moving to commercial radio.
