A 29-year-old man from Memphis named Tyre Nichols passed away after a traffic stop on January 7, and the officers involved have been accused of murder.
Tyre Nichols epitomized what it means to be a family-oriented person. The youngest of four siblings, he was a devoted son to his mother, RowVaughn Wells, and a loving father to his 4-year-old child. He worked at FedEx and enjoyed capturing sunsets through photography, watching sports, and socializing with friends at Starbucks.
The traffic stop resulting in the death of Nichols has garnered international attention, as the five Black officers involved have been terminated and are now facing charges of second-degree murder.
The Memphis police have recently unveiled the graphic body cam footage from Tyre Nichols’ arrest, confirming the disturbing nature of the incident as described by both his family and law enforcement.
Tyre Nichols Girlfriend: Was He Married
Lawyer Benjamin Crump spoke at a Friday press conference and shared that Tyre, known on Facebook as “Ty”, was a devoted and affectionate father. According to Crump, Tyre’s main aim was to be a better dad for his 4-year-old son, and would greet people with hugs upon entering a room.
Nichols was the father of a child born from a previous relationship with a girlfriend named Katie. The name of the son has not been disclosed.

What Led To Tyre Nichols’ Death: Memphis Officers Accused Of Murdering Him
According to news sources, Tyre Nichols was driving to his mother’s house in Memphis around 8:30 p.m. for his meal break from his second-shift job at FedEx when he was pulled over for suspected reckless driving. Memphis Police reported a confrontation occurred between Nichols and the officers, leading to another confrontation. The Shelby County District Attorney stated that pepper spray was used on Nichols.
The incident resulted in a severe beating by five officers, causing injuries that eventually led to his death. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation confirmed that Nichols died due to the injuries sustained in the use-of-force incident with the officers. An autopsy’s preliminary results revealed that Nichols died on January 10 after suffering extensive bleeding caused by the severe beating. His family and attorneys observed his fatal encounter with the police and stated that the preliminary findings match what they saw.
The five officers involved in the incident, Tadarrius Bean, Demetrius Haley, Emmitt Martin III, Desmond Mills Jr., and Justin Smith, have been charged with second-degree murder, aggravated assault, two charges of aggravated kidnapping, two charges of official misconduct, and one charge of official oppression. They have been terminated by the Memphis Police Department for their excessive use of force, failure to intervene, and failure to render aid.
Tyre’s Mother Tears Down After Hearing Son Begged For Her During Brutal Assault
Tyre’s mother, RowVaughn Wells, shared that she could feel her son’s pain as the police beat him badly just a few blocks from their home. Tyre screamed “gut-wrenching screams” for his mother. She starts crying as she says that five black police officers beat her 150-pound son “like a pinata.” She adds that her son’s attack was like Rodney King’s in 1991.

RowVaughn told Don Lemon, “Yes, he called out for me because I’m his mother. He was trying to get home safely. He loved his mom. “He loves me very much. He has a tattoo of my name on his arm. He had Chron’s disease, and in 2013, he had surgery.
“I told my husband my stomach hurt so bad, and when I found out what happened, I realized it was because I was feeling my son’s pain.”
