What Led To Tyre Nichols’ Death: Memphis Officers Accused Of Murdering Him

According to news sources, Tyre Nichols was driving to his mother’s house in Memphis around 8:30 p.m. for his meal break from his second-shift job at FedEx when he was pulled over for suspected reckless driving. Memphis Police reported a confrontation occurred between Nichols and the officers, leading to another confrontation. The Shelby County District Attorney stated that pepper spray was used on Nichols.

The incident resulted in a severe beating by five officers, causing injuries that eventually led to his death. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation confirmed that Nichols died due to the injuries sustained in the use-of-force incident with the officers. An autopsy’s preliminary results revealed that Nichols died on January 10 after suffering extensive bleeding caused by the severe beating. His family and attorneys observed his fatal encounter with the police and stated that the preliminary findings match what they saw.

The five officers involved in the incident, Tadarrius Bean, Demetrius Haley, Emmitt Martin III, Desmond Mills Jr., and Justin Smith, have been charged with second-degree murder, aggravated assault, two charges of aggravated kidnapping, two charges of official misconduct, and one charge of official oppression. They have been terminated by the Memphis Police Department for their excessive use of force, failure to intervene, and failure to render aid.

RowVaughn told Don Lemon, “Yes, he called out for me because I’m his mother. He was trying to get home safely. He loved his mom. “He loves me very much. He has a tattoo of my name on his arm. He had Chron’s disease, and in 2013, he had surgery.

“I told my husband my stomach hurt so bad, and when I found out what happened, I realized it was because I was feeling my son’s pain.”
