In 1991, Melissa Stark started her career in journalism as an intern at WMAR-TV in Baltimore, where she worked at the assignment desk. Later, she moved and worked as a news intern for the CBS Evening News with Dan Rather between 1993 and 1994. She wrote scripts and put together background information for Dr. Bob Arnot’s investigation pieces.
Before joining the ESPN network in 1996, Stark worked as a production assistant and a reporter for the Virginia coach’s TV show. But her success started when she got the chance to host the weekly show Scholastic Sports America. She went all over the US to cover high school and college sports.
