The charges against him allege that he played a leading role in a complex scheme to cheat thousands of his online followers out of at least $1 billion.
Ho Wan Kwok, also known as Guo Wengui and Miles Guo, has been accused of deceiving thousands of his online followers into investing money, which he then allegedly used to buy extravagant assets such as a $36,000 mattress, a $26.5 million mansion in New Jersey, and a $37 million yacht.
According to the Justice Department, Guo gained a significant online following after establishing two non-profit organizations in 2018, which purportedly criticized the Chinese Communist Party. The allegations against Guo suggest that he used his online platform to defraud his followers, who believed they were investing in legitimate ventures, while he used their money for personal gain.
