Kalil’s birthplace is Minnesota; her name at birth was Haley O’Brien. Summa cum laude, she earned a Bachelor of Science in medical biology and psychology with a chemistry minor from St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, Minnesota.
Kalil began her pageantry career at age 16, placing third in Miss Minnesota Teen USA 2009. She won Miss Minnesota Teen USA 2010 the following year. Kalil represented Minnesota at Miss Teen USA 2010 on Paradise Island, Bahamas.
In 2013, Kalil competed in Miss Minnesota USA 2014 in Burnsville, Minnesota. At Miss USA, Kalil ranked in the top 20, losing to Nia Sanchez of Nevada. After her term as Miss Minnesota USA, Kalil crowned Jessica Scheu as her successor and retired.
