Born in Bedford–Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, New York City, LeBrun discovered his passion for DJing at a young age under the guidance of a crew called DJ Knight and the Knights of Hollywood. His introduction to rapper Big Daddy Kane during high school marked the beginning of his journey into the music industry.
Following graduation, he juggled various messenger jobs before diving into DJing for Kane in the late 1980s, even contributing to Kane’s debut album, “Long Live the Kane,” with the track “Mister Cee’s Master Plan.”
In the early 1990s, Mister Cee transitioned to radio, where he rapidly gained popularity by spotlighting emerging artists on his shows “Throwback at Noon” and “Friday Night Live” on New York stations Hot97 and WBLS, respectively.
