Tika and Nicholas got married on May 14, 2022, in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. They met on the set of their show The Haves and the Have Nots. In an interview, Tika said about marrying Nick, with whom she has a five-year-old daughter named Ella, “We’re excited to be together and continue the journey.” “We both walked down the aisle with clear minds, knowing that the wedding wasn’t just a party. Really, it was for us.”
The wedding and reception were both held at Chileno Bay Resorts & Residences, Auberge Resorts Collection. The couple chose this location because it was close to their home state of California and they wanted their guests to feel like they were on vacation. Tika says, “We wanted everyone to have fun and celebrate the long, amazing journey we’ve been on.”

The bride walked down the aisle in a Galia Lahav wedding dress without straps and a veil that flowed behind her. The groom wore a custom Franc Milton suit that was a light blue colour. Sumpter also said that getting married won’t really change much for the couple, but that it will be fun to “call Nick my husband and hear him call me his wife.”

When Tika was on The Real in January 2017 and asked about the ring on her finger, the actress said she was engaged. Sumpter said that his Christmas Day proposal was “simple and just great.” In April 2017, James posted a picture of the three of them on his Instagram page. Two months later, Sumpter shared a post on her Instagram page celebrating her daughter’s father and telling the world who he was.
