Linda Thomas-Greenfield is an American diplomat who was born on November 22, 1952. She is the 31st US Ambassador to the UN, working for President Joe Biden. From 2013 to 2017, she was the Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs in the United States.
Thomas-Greenfield then went to work in the private sector as a senior vice president at the Albright Stonebridge Group in Washington, D.C.
A State Department bio says that she also represented the US in Switzerland, Pakistan, Kenya, The Gambia, Nigeria, and Jamaica during her career.
Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield won the 2017 University of Minnesota Hubert Humphrey Public Leadership Award, the 2015 Bishop John T. Walker Distinguished Humanitarian Service Award, and the 2000 Warren Christopher Award for Outstanding Achievement in Global Affairs. She has a bachelor’s degree from Louisiana State University and a master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin, where she also worked towards a doctorate.
She got an honorary Doctor of Law degree from the University of Wisconsin in May 2018 and an honorary Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Liberia in May 2012.
She is married to Lafayette Masteen-Greenfield.

In her official biography, it says that her husband’s name is Lafayette. They have two children together: Lindsay and Lafayette II.

Lafayette, her husband, seems to keep his online life private, so not much else is known about him. But their son, Lafayette II Greenfield, has a Twitter account where he sometimes writes about his family and other things.
Lafayette Greenfield, who is married to Linda Thomas Greenfield, is also dedicated to public service. They both worked as Foreign Service Officers for the State Department for their whole careers.
Their son says that she met the man she is now married to in this study abroad program. While he was in college, Lafayette Greenfield II kept a blog online. In the section about himself, he wrote that his parents met in Liberia in the 1970s. Greenfield II said that he was a “foreign service brat” as well. He wrote that he was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, but he also spent time growing up in The Gambia, Kenya, Pakistan, and Switzerland. Lindsay, his sister, posted a family photo from the 1990s on Facebook.

During her elementary school years, Lindsay went to the International School of Kenya. In the mid-1990s, her mother lived in Nairobi. Collège du Léman, a boarding school in Switzerland, was also on Lindsay’s list.
Thomas-son, Greenfield’s Lafayette Masteen Greenfield II, was born in August of 1986. In a blog post from 2009, he said, “I was named after my father, and my personality is just like his. Everyone calls me “Deuce,” which my mother thought was a more interesting way to call me “junior.” Thomas-Greenfield actually called her son “Deuce” in her opening statement before the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations in May 2008.
