Al Roker is back on the Today show after a health battle that put his life in danger. The weather anchor had been off the camera for more than two months while he recovered from back-to-back hospitalizations and major surgery for blood clots and internal bleeding. Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie were there to greet him when he got to NBC’s Studio 1A Rockefeller Plaza on Friday.
After being in the hospital for a month and recovering at home, Roker called everyone who worked on the show his “second family” and said, “It’s great to be back — and wearing pants.” He said his heart was “just about to burst” when his coworkers did everything they could for him, like playing the A-Team theme song as a welcome.
Deborah, his wife, has been an enormous support as he battles back from the near-death experience. She is there for him no matter what, especially in times like these. Here, we’ll discuss Roker’s wife and their marriage.
Meet Roker’s Wife, Deborah Roberts
Deborah Roberts, who is also a well-known journalist, is married to the co-host of TODAY. She works for ABC News, while her husband works for NBC.
Even though they are different, the TV stars all have “a deep and lasting respect and love for family.” In an interview with Good Morning America, Roberts said, “We don’t like the same foods, we don’t really like a lot of the same music, and we don’t like a lot of the same theater events.” “But we love each other a lot, and we have a deep respect for and love for our families. I think that gives us stability.”
Roker told PEOPLE that his wife has been “a real rock” since he was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2020 and had to have surgery.
Roker And Roberts First Met In 1990
Al Roker and his wife, Deborah Roberts, met on the set of the Today show in 1990 when Roberts became a correspondent for NBC’s Today show. Roker was married to his first wife, Alice Bell, from 1984 to 1992, when they split up.
Later, on The Kelly Clarkson Show, the Today anchor talked about how he got a date with Roberts. He said that Roberts had asked him to watch over her apartment while she was in Barcelona covering the Summer Olympics for NBC.
“A day before she got home from her trip, I stocked her pantry and fridge and put flowers and a note that said “Welcome home” on the table,” Roker said. “A week after that, we went on our first date.”
